Promoting Mental Health During Pandemic - a digital platform for monitoring and intervention
The Portuguese population is currently suffering the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which might have a detrimental effect on mental health depending on the baseline characteristics of the population. This project aims to longitudinally identify protective and risk factors for mental health with weekly online questionnaires. This information will enable the development of a digital platform (with mobile app) for adequate mental health care and guidance to the ones in need during the pandemic.
The digital platform will integrate IFDepression (a program to monitor and treat anxiety and depressive symptoms), a digital treatment program designed with P5 Medical Centre (which includes acute psychology and psychiatry interventions), a chat tool where trained mental health professionals will provide support and perform crisis intervention, and a specific and personalized intervention program for health professionals – “Cuidar de Quem Cuida” (a program designed by our medical school that involves DGS, Ordem dos Médicos, SPPSM and APIP). Importantly, online support will work as triage for subsequent intervention involving healthcare pathways and institutions (SNS).
This project has potential to mitigate the burden of public health services in times of crisis, and to create new technology that is adaptable to other mental health applications in the future.
