Investigating Feelings and Behaviors Related to COVID-19
COVID-19 has become a global pandemic.
Mitigation of the virus depends on a number of people engaging in behaviors that limit the virus’ spread. In these studies our goals are:
- improve policy support, information seeking, and intentions to engage in preventative behavior related to COVID-19;
- investigate how individuals can better regulate their emotions to reducing negative emotion, catastrophic thoughts and rumination concerning the pandemic;
- test the effectiveness of different types of messaging encouraging social distancing.
Collectively, these studies test psychologically informed techniques to promote healthier behaviors and reduce anxiety in the context of a pandemic, increase the effectiveness of current efforts to combat the virus.
The studies are being conducted at the same time by a diversity of labs from at least 41 countries, including researchers from three universities in Portugal (Iscte-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, Universidade do Porto e Universidade de Coimbra).
